The Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Minister has said Thursday that eating pork is completely safe and does not carry the swine flue virus.

"Doubts that eating of pork meat is dangerous for people's health are completely unjustified.", Valeri Tsvetanov said during a press conference after Council of Minister's meeting on Thursday.

Minister Tsvetanov asserted that pork meat can be freely consumed, because there was no evidence that pigs can catch swine flu. He also said that control measures on pork meat import from non-EU countries had already been taken.

At the joint press conference Deputy Health Minister, Emil Rainov, presented the measures taken for prevention of the swine flu. Bulgaria's official position on the matter will be presented by the Health Minister, Evgeniy Zhelev, at an emergency meeting of the health minister of the EU member countries.

Deputy Minister Rainov informed that there was a reserve of 82 000 dozes of Tamiflu, and 160 000 dozes of Remantadin, proving that there is no shortage of medicines.

"Taking those medicines in advance is nonsense though", Rainov said.
