Bulgaria PM: We Can Become Southeast Europe Energy Leader

Bulgaria has the potential to become the main distributor of natural gas for the entire Southeastern Europe and the Black sea region.

The opinion about the country's future leading energy role on the Balkans and and the Black sea region was expressed Friday by Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev.

Stanishev gave the keynote address at the business forum, held in the frame of the energy summit "Natural Gas for Europe."

The PM stressed on Bulgaria's strategics location between Asia, Russia and Europe, pointed out that the country had learned its lessons from the January gas crisis and the related issue of the security of gas supplies and spoke about the "Nabucco" gas line as priority project for the country and the European Union.

After the official opening of the forum by Stanishev, the discussion of the energy business is continuing with exhibits of some of the leading energy companies in the world - "Gazprom", Gas de France" among them. The business forum includes over 400 participants.
