Most of the policemen who were dispatched to Sofia as part of the increased security measures for the energy summit are housed in a deplorable building.

The newly created trade union of employees of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry has logged an official complaint about the appalling and unacceptable conditions offered to policemen from outside Sofia.

The information was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES.

The building of the former tank brigade in Sofia's "Gorna Banya" suburb do not provide adequate housing or surroundings for the police employees to accomplish their duties, the unions say.

Policemen from Ruse, Silistra, Lovech and Smolyan stood Wednesday outside the facilities in the rain and the cold in sign of protest, refusing to enter the deteriorating building.

The unions further inform the protesters were harassed with threats that they would be punished for refusal to obey orders.

10 Interior Ministry employees are, reportedly, housed in one room with 80 of them per floor while the building has two out-of-order restrooms and one bathroom without hot water.

The energy summit under the motto "Natural Gas for Europe" will be held in Sofia on April 24 and 25.
