Leaks of internal information from the Interior Ministry regularly interfere with authorities' efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of notorious abductions in Bulgaria.

The statement was made Tuesday for Darik radio by former high-ranking police officers wishing to remain anonymous.

The sources further say that in three occasions the police have been very close to making arrests, but were hampered by individuals inside the Interior Ministry, who have alarmed the abductors.

According to them, the cases involve the kidnappings of Mihail Kraus, son of Bulgaria's former Transport Minister Wilhelm Kraus, of Angel Bonchev, President of the "Litex" football club and his wife Kamelya, and of the son of the now deceased businessman Ivo Markov. (Markov was shot dead in Sofia in 2006.)

Darik's private sources further revealed that the same group had authored the three abductions and two others that have been kept secret from the public, adding that policemen were not directly involved as members of the crime group.
