Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, has requested Monday amendments of the legislation regarding abductions in the country.

The news was reported by Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Mihaill Mikov, who spoke for reporters upon conclusion of the emergency meeting between the PM and the Interior Ministry's leadership.

The meeting was convened in the late afternoon Monday, despite the Easter Holiday, at the personal request of the Interior Minister.

Mikov explained that new measures to eliminate the abductions that became increasingly popular in Bulgaria, included changes in the Penalty Code regarding the preparation of the crime and the kidnapping accomplices.

According to the Minister, the measures must include confiscation of the property of the perpetrators and elimination of the so-called anonymous sim cards that are currently being offered on the market by the Bulgarian mobile operators.

Other participants in the meeting such as the Deputy Sofia Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, and the Chief Commissar of the Interior Ministry, Pavlin Dimitrov, also addressed the reporters and vowed to fight the crime.

Vasilev said that his Office was committed to become merciless when similar offense is perpetrated, while Dimitrov stated that the entire staff of the Ministry would be mobilized to fight the abductors and there was no more room for patience and tolerance.
