Bulgaria and Bulgaria's Jewish community mark Monday Yom HaShoah, or the Holocaust Remembrance Day, by an official commemorating ceremony held in Sofia.

The day is observed all over the world as a day of commemoration for the approximately six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust during the Second World War.

In Israel, Yom HaShoah is a national memorial day. Yom HaShoah was inaugurated in 1951, anchored in a law signed by the Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion and the President of Israel Yitzhak Ben-Zvi.

The official ceremony to commemorate the Holocaust victims in Sofia is held Monday at the city's Synagogue and is organized by the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria - Shalom. The event begins at 7:00 pm.
