"My children should leave Bulgaria, there is no point in trying to make a living here," said Bulgarian businessman Kiro Kirov, who was released for ransom after 19 days in captivity.

Approached by Darik Radio on Sunday, Kirov refused to disclose the sum paid by his family and vehemently denied reports that he has hatched and set up his own abduction.

"Such claims are so insulting and illogical! Do you think it is easy for me to explain to the banks and foreign partners that I cannot pay my installments because I have given all my money for the ransom?," he asked rhetorically.

According to him the rumors that his company is going through bad times have dealt a heavy blow to its image.

"I have never had problems with my Japanese partners," Kirov said.

Kiro Kirov was kidnapped on March 27 in Sofia's quarter of Bankya, and was released on April 13 after his son paid a ransom, which according to various reports was between EUR 500 000 and EUR 1 M.

Kiro Kirov is CEO of Kirov Holding, which includes a number of firms for the production of furniture, a textile firm, a transport firm, and firms importing construction equipment and machines, including of the Bosch brand.

In 2007, Kirov Holding reported a turnover of BGN 204 M. Kirov is a machine engineer, a graduate of the Sofia Technical University.
