Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, has said that Russia remained a priority trading partner for Bulgaria despite the raging global crisis.

The Russia market is traditionally welcoming to Bulgarian goods, which were competitive with their quality and prices, Stanishev stressed in an interview for ITAR-TASS.

During his visit to Russia at the end of April, Stanishev will head the most massive presentation of Bulgarian export products in Russia.

"Russia and the EU do need one another... In this sense Sofia turns out to be an additional very serious channel of communication between Moscow and Brussels", the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.

Stanishev also explained the Russia-Ukraine gas crisis was an additional catalyst for the diversification of Bulgaria's energy supplies.

He mentioned as diversification examples both the Russian-sponsored Belene Nuclear Power Plant, the South Stream gas pipeline, and the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, and the EU-sponsored Nabucco gas pipeline, the AMBO oil pipeline, the liquefied natural gas terminal in northern Greece.
