Bulgaria PM Sergey Stanishev was met by protesters, a trash truck, and a cleaning hose in front of Sofia's "Sveti Georgi" (St.George) church late Saturday night.

Over 30 representatives of Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) surprised PM Stanishev in the gardens outside the Church with a vocal protest against the reinstatement of the cleaning company Novera to help deal with Sofia's waste crisis.

Stanishev was met with cries of "Mafia" from the protesters after Sofia Mayor and GERB leader Boyko Borisov had ealier stated that the return of Novera with the support of the government suggested that the country's leaders were in the pocket of the company.

"I am not interested in the wolf, rabbits, marrows or radishes or any others. It is important to clean the Capital properly." Stanishev replied, cited by Darik Radio.

The National Crisis Headquarters created by Stanishev over the declared waste crisis in Bulgarian capital Sofia asked Novera earlier Saturday to help deal with the crisis.

The company's contract was suspended in early March 2009 by Sofia's municipality office.

The company has the equipment and staff needed to solve the waste crisis, the spokesperson of the Headquarters, Chavdar Georgiev, explained. He added that is a temporary decision until the situation gets back to normal.
