US Singer Chris Brown Pleads "Not Guilty" to Attacking Rihanna

The US singer Chris Brown pleaded Monday afternoon not guilty to charges in felony assault.

Brown is accused of attacking his girlfriend, the singer Rihanna. He is charged with felony counts of assault and making criminal threats, CNN reported.

Chris Brown allegedly attacked Rhianna during an argument in February that began when 21-year-old Rihanna, found a text message from another woman on his cell phone, according to a sworn police statement.

The only words heard from 19-year-old Brown, during his brief appearance before the judge were "not guilty".

If he is convicted, the sentence could range from probation to four years and eight months in prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has said.

"She would be pleased if this were over quickly... There are efforts on behalf of all of the parties to try to resolve the case expeditiously and fairly", Rihanna's lawyer, Donald Etra. He also addded that his client wants the case resolved without a tria.

Brown issued a public apology for the incident in February. He has not commented publicly since issuing that statement.

The next court hearing in the case is set for April 29.

Rihanna had a free entrance concert in Bulgaria in November 2007. Than she performed in front of 30 000 people in downtown Sofia.
