Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, presented his governing coalition partner, Ahmen Dogan, with a microscope for his 55th birthday.

Stanishev, who is also the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, visited the head office of Dogan's ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in order to greet him for the occasion.

"This is one of the Bulgarian politicians who is analytical, he is a researcher, and that is why my gift stands for wishing him to be always able to dig down to the essence of things, the foundations of each political process and of the social relations", Stanishev explained.

Upon entering the DPS office, Stanishev commented that it made sense for his coalition partners, DPS and the former Tsar Saxe-Coburg's party NMSP, to come up with a join ticket for the coming European Parliament elections, as cited by Darik Radio.

A number of prominent public figures also came to wish happy birthday to Ahmed Dogan. The former head of Bulgaria's State Agriculture Fund, Dimitar Tadarakov, who resigned in June 2008 over funds abuse allegations, presented Dogan with a portrait of the DPS leader by Dimitar Lalev, painted 25 years ago, right before Dogan was jailed by the communist regime.
