Three Bulgarian Agrarian Parties Forge Pre-Election Coalition

Three agrarian political parties in Bulgaria joined efforts Thursday to forge a pre-election coalition.

The agrarian fractions "Nikola Petkov", "United Agrarians", and the "Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union" (BZNS) declared they would enter the upcoming parliamentary elections with an united ballot and would negotiate with other center right wing parties to further expand the coalition.

The coalition's goals are defined as a joint election campaign and elimination of the ruling tri-party coalition from the Cabinet.

The Bulgarian Agrarian Union has deep roots and long-running tradition in the political life of the country. Disagreements and power struggle have tainted the Union after 1989, leading to its break up in several different fractions. Recently, a scandal interrupted during the 36th Congress of the Bulgarian Agrarian Union in December, over disagreements about the election of the Congress' leaders.
