The town of Kazanluk had a private Islamic school preparing Bulgarian children to study in Muslim countries.

The school existed 10 years ago while half of the students there came from the now infamous village of Ribnovo, the Bulgarian news agency BGNES informs.

A women, identified only as S.T., told the BGNES reporter that she was employed as the English teacher at the school. Classes were held in private apartments all over the town while teachers were, allegedly, hired and paid by a Tunisian citizen, known as Mohammad. The children were all in grades 4,5 and 6, both boys and girls. The school had about 20 youngsters enrolled, mainly form the Southwestern village of Ribnovo and a closer by village - Rosino, near the town of Karlovo.

S.T. further alleges the children were taken so far away from their homes to cover up the illegal activities of promoting fundamentalist Islam over Mohammad's troubles with the then Chief Mufti, Nedzhim Gendzhev. Due to Gendzhev's pressure the Tunisian has been extradited from Bulgaria and resided in Turkey for several years. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
