College students in the Bulgarian Black Sea capital Varna are organizing Tuesday a march under the motto "We are humans. Let's not forget it this time."

The peaceful protest began at 10 am with students gathering in the yard of Varna's Economic University and will end at the Varna Court where lawyers for Georgi Tsvetanov, the young man who is the sole suspect in the shocking murder of a 21-year-old girl, are appealing the Court's decision to hold Tsvetanov behind bars.

Due to the atrocious, mutilation style murder of Radostina Evtimova, a third-year female college student from the Varna Economic University, the students demand that serious crimes are separated from light ones and the short trial procedure is not used when a severe offense has been committed. The students say that it is unacceptable that Tsvetanov could end up serving only 15 years in jail for the vicious killing of Radostina.

The Varna youth stated that they will decide on further actions after they learn the outcome of Tuesday's proceedings.

"Bulgaria's values and laws are now inside-out and there is something perverted in them. If we are not satisfied with the Court's decision, things will turn to the worst," Georgi Georgiev, student from the Economic University and one of the protest organizers warned, cited by Darik radio.

On March 9, the Varna Regional Court decided to keep the suspect permanently behind bars, which is the strictest measure in such cases.

The body of the 21-year-old college student, Radostina Evtimova, was found in an apartment in Varna on March 6 with over 50 knife wounds.

Georgi Tsvetanov, who faces life in prison, refuses to collaborate with the authorities, and continues to deny any involvement in the murder. He did not appear for the Tuesday's proceedings and will be represented by his defense team.

Georgi is the son of Tsanko Tsvetanov - the leader of the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) in the city of Varna. The local councilmen from UDF have already requested Tsvetanov's resignation.
