Hristo Stoichkov, the legendary Bulgarian football player from the 1990s, will be looking to score a goal of a different kind as the country's ambassador in an UN campaign against hunger.

The Professional Football Against Hunger campaign includes the 28 Member Leagues and Associate Members of EPFL, representing more than 960 professional football clubs across Europe.

The first event of the collaboration between the United Nations and world sport will be launched in Bulgaria on March 22 when all professional footballers in Bulgaria will wear a "Professional Football Against Hunger" strips.

A team of European football stars, including 1982 World Champion Paolo Rossi of Italy, Hans-Peter Müller of Germany and Manuel José of Portugal, have also joined the campaign.

"There is nothing more beautiful in life than the smile of a happy child," Hristo Stoichkov said at a press conference that presented the campaign.

"If every football player in Group A donates BGN 20, we will be able to collect a huge sum for this good initiative," Valentin Mihov, chairman of the Professional Football League, added.

Shortly before the start of the press confence Stoichkov did not fail to show his short temper and disregard for Bulgarian journalists, calling them "dummies". The former start got irritated after a dozen photographers started taking pictures of him even before he took off his car.

Despite all his football successes and glamour, Stoitchkov has also been known for his outrageous behaviour towards Bulgarian journalists and arrogant comments about his home country.
