A huge crowd joined the protest rally of Sofia's policemen Sunday.

About 5,000 have already gathered in the "Zaimov" park in downtown Sofia, the Darik radio reporter informs. In the mean time, the Bulgarian National Radio says that anywhere between 8,000 and 10,000 have arrived at the location.

The official start of the rally was at 11 am. The rally is held under the form of an outdoors concert since the law bans demonstrations organized by the Police.

After the concert, the policemen will lay flowers at the nearby monument of Bulgaria's national hero, Vasil Levski, and will then march to the building of the Bulgarian Parliament.

Police officers protest against low wages and deplorable work conditions. The Sunday "concert" protest is the fourth consecutive one. During the first three, the participants smoked cigarettes, stood silent and drank water in sign of protest against the Interior Ministry's policy.

The "Zaimov" park is just in front of the Czech Embassy in Sofia. The protest's location has been purposely selected because the Czech Republic is the current rotational Chair of the European Union (EU)
