There are serious differences between the reactors at the Chernobyl plant where there was a huge explosion, and those in Kozloduy. This is what the Bulatom experts are saying. They are convinced that the reactors at Kozloduy, a type of WWER, are better protected than those at the Chernobyl plant.

Reactors of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant were RBMK, while the Kozloduy NPP units are WWER, and the WWER reactors have been put into operation in the world in the last few years, experts from Bulatom said.

RBMK reactors have weaknesses in the fire system, whereas these types of WWER have a much more modernized system.

RBMK does not have a reinforced shell as a WWER. RBMK has no control over the temperature like the WWER reactor. These are just some of the differences that Bulatom Secretary Secretary Svetoslav Georgiev has pointed out:

"We have reached one of the main differences between the two types of reactors. This is the relationship between temperature and power in both technologies. Simply put, increasing the temperature in the area of the coolant in the RBMK reactor also increases the power, while increasing the temperature in the WWER reactors, the power is reduced. That is, technologically, between the two types of reactors under project is inherent safety properties in the WWER reactors, "explained Georgiev.

Last but not least, the graphite in the RBMK reactor very easily ignites, a fact that has caused the enormous destructive consequences of the Chernobyl accident. There is no graphite in the WWER reactor, experts say.
