Bulgarians Traveled most in the Country in the Fourth Quarter of 2018

In the fourth quarter of 2018 1 095 400 Bulgarians made tourist trips, preliminary data from the National Statistical Institute show. The majority of them - 84.1 per cent - traveled only in the country, 14.5 per cent - only abroad, and 1.4 per cent traveled both in the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2017, the total number of travelers aged 15 and over decreased by 17.6 per cent.

In the fourth quarter of 2018 most Bulgarians aged 25-44 years traveled the most - 469.2 thousand, or 42.8% of all traveled people. In all age groups, the relative share of trips in the country is predominant, with the highest share in people aged 15-24 years - 90.1 per cent of those traveled in this age group. For journeys abroad, the share of travelers aged 45-64 is the largest - 16.7 per cent of those traveled in the respective age group.

The majority of the tourist trips of people aged 15 and over in the country were for the purpose of "visiting relatives" while those made abroad were for "rest and excursion" mentioned respectively from 49.9 and 52 one hundred.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, 1 388.6 thousand, or 92.3% of the total number of personal trips, were registered as self-employed. The relative share of the independent trips without reservation in the country is 95.2 per cent, and those abroad - 71.6 per cent.

In the structure of expenditure by type, the largest relative share in the country is for food - 38.9 per cent, while for transport - 41.9 per cent. In the fourth quarter of 2018, the average cost of traveling for personal purposes to one person aged 15 and over was BGN 161.57 in the country and BGN 515.11 abroad. The cost of one person for a professional trip is BGN 154.92 in the country and BGN 1 192.41 abroad.
