Five confirmed cases of measles in Bulgaria, there are serious doubts about another 12 infected children. Four of the children diagnosed with measles have been from the Blagoevgrad region and have not been vaccinated for smallpox.

Currently, under medical surveillance, there are a total of 145 people who have had contact with the patients. The fifth established measles case is a 37-year-old woman from Sofia. It turned out that the patient had gone through two hospitals before the doctors found out that the complaints she were suffering from related to measles. Now, those from the healthcare staff who have not been ill and have not been vaccinated will have to wait 21 days to see if they are carriers of the virus.

At this stage we can not talk about an epidemic, but about a sudden burst, announced Dr. Radosveta Filipova from the Directorate "Health Promotion Policy and Disease Prevention" at the Ministry of Health at an extraordinary briefing in the late afternoon.

One of the infected children is one year and eight months, two are a year and nine months, and the fourth child is three years old. There are, however, serious doubts about another 12 children in a Blagoevgrad hospital.

Dr. Filipova admitted that our immunization range is not optimal, but it is even below the level that is needed.

The ministry recalls that the source of infection is only man and the transmission factor is the air. Infection occurs in close and direct contact, which occurs mostly in confined spaces. After getting back to good health, life-long immunity is built.
