Two scientific institutes will be opened in the structure of the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. Their creation was approved on Wednesday by the government. One will deal with research and projects in the field of law, economics and intellectual property, and the other with developments in the field of large data and artificial intelligence.

The Institute for Large Data for the benefit of Intelligent Society is set up to develop interdisciplinary research and innovation in the field of large data and artificial intelligence, together with governmental organizations, industry and entrepreneurs. In addition to developing research in these fields, the institute should also expand the university's links with business and industry through technology transfer and research results.

It is foreseen to have at least 15 people working in four core units: the Large Data Analysis Section, the Large Data Integration Section, the Large Data Preview section and the Large Data Methodologies and Technologies section.

The other institute is called Southeast European Institute of Law, Economics and Intellectual Property. It will carry out long-term research activities by combining the efforts of professors from various scientific majors and faculties of Sofia University. Its creation should allow research to be carried out with national and international significance on projects and programs.

"Joint research projects with foreign partners will be encouraged, the volume and quality of scientific research will be increased, including through the creation of new scientific knowledge and scientifically applicable products," the government's press release said.

The institute does not provide for the training of students.
