More than 14,500 young people at the age of 18 will receive a free travel card from the EU to get to know Europe, the European Commission said, reports Mediapool.

The selection was made from almost 80,000 people. Young people will be able to travel between April 15 and October 31 this year for up to 30 days. In the second round of the initiative, the application lasted for two weeks and ended on 11 December last year.

Young people will be able to travel alone or in groups up to five people, most of whom will be traveling by train. In exceptional cases, other travel options will be used, notes the report.

Participants will be able to connect with each other on social networks. They will learn more about European cultural heritage and diversity, get to know their European heritage.

Last year, the initiative had 12 million euros, and this budget was 16 million euros. The European Commission proposes to provide 700 million euros for free European youth travel by 2027.

If the European Parliament and the Council of the EU approve the proposal, another 1.5 million young people will take this opportunity.
