Will this French Company Change the Large-scale Infrastructure Landscape in Bulgaria?

SIXENSE Group international infrastructure planning company comes to Bulgaria and is here to stay

As an emerging European country, Bulgaria has been on track to modernize and improve its either decaying or absent infrastructure for quite some time. Since joining the EU there can be seen significant progress in this direction. European funds transform the capital Sofia but smaller settlements as well. This leads to general growth and opportunity for businesses to join in on the metamorphosis happening in the country.

So far, all that sounds great, but here is the catch – Bulgaria is a former socialist state that went through a long and difficult transition period. After a new energy and transportation infrastructure was constructed, by 1960 manufacturing became the dominant sector of the economy. This means that the country's critical infrastructure is quite old. In the 90s booming construction and eagerness for Bulgaria to catch up with global trends has led to rapid and somewhat diverse infrastructure. The existing aging landscape is prerequisite for additional vigilance and careful planning for every new project. Considering the fact that a lot of the recent infrastructure projects were not conducted in such a way you can imagine the problems with sustaining and increased complexity of Bulgaria's infrastructure landscape.

Perhaps it is time for Bulgaria to open a new chapter of prosperity and innovation with smart construction and SIXENSE Group coming to the country could be seen as a symbolic start. SIXENSE offers expert solutions and digital solutions dedicated to structures, soils and the environment.

Engineering, Monitoring, Software, Digitisation. SIXENSE has specialist solutions that cover the whole lifecycle of infrastructure from construction and maintenance to dismantling/demolition. Their development of digital asset management solutions and their experience in data management have made SIXENSE world leaders in these technologies.

SIXENSE offers a comprehensive and complete range of services, combining their specialties, in order to address their client’s specific requirements.
These solutions help to better understand, analyse, predict, optimise and sustain investment.

1. Buildings 2. Functional facilities 3. Transportation infrastructure 4. Water infrastructure 5. Energy & nuclear 6. Oil & gas 7. Environment 8. Mining

SIXENSE Group is a global company based across 5 continents and 20 countries including France, United States, the UK and Honk Kong. It employs more than 600 people as well as 450 specialist engineers. It has three in-house laboratories for materials, coating and mechatronics.

The current state of affairs in Bulgaria

If we take a look at future projects in the country it becomes clear that inevitable transformation is coming in various sectors. New BDZ Trains will Travel From Sofia to Burgas For 3h but in order for that to be achieved the old railway infrastructure has to be fully adapted and modernizing just a few sections is not enough.

In view of the large-scale infrastructure construction projects and repair works taking place on key boulevards, streets and public spaces in the central part of Sofia Municipality the Ministry of Culture is to Inspect State of Buildings Declared Immovable Cultural Heritage. But inspections will most likely show that the buildings are in urgent need of repair as it can be concluded even by non-professionals just going for a walk in downtown Sofia.

Prime Minister Borisov expressed his worry of the state of bridges and declared that Bulgaria is to Renovate Bridges after Italy Bridge Collapse.

Kiril Voynov, Chief Director of "Surveillance of the Dam and their Facilities" declared that 858 Dams in Bulgaria are in a Need of Repair.

Bulgaria's government said it decided to provide 15 million levs (9.0 million dollars/7.7 million euro) from its budget to Sofia municipality, which will be used to partially finance the first two phases of the construction of Line 3 of the Sofia subway. And this is because Sofia Municipality plans to carry out 40% of the transport by subway by 2019.

These are just few examples of various areas where smart construction of large-scale infrastructure in Bulgaria will be vital for a sustainable future and the list goes on and on.

Here comes SIXENSE with the solutions and experience needed

The four areas of specialization of SIXENSE are engineering, monitoring, software and digitalization. Every single step from start to finish is carefully analyzed and this can be seen from the impeccable record on world-class projects, here are just few examples:

  1. The Crossrail in London which is currently under construction.

  2. The dam in Plavinas, Latvia.

  3. The 3rd Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey

  4. The Grand Paris Project for the railway

  5. Road infrastructure in Romania

  6. Smithsonian Institute, USA

Extraction of vast amounts of data that is subsequently used to provide the most suitable solutions is at the core of the success of SIXENSE. It is sometimes calculations of centimeters and replacement of few kilograms of certain material used properly that make work on projects immensely more efficient. Cost savings and optimization of time schedules is just part of the importance of this process as improved safety and prevention of serious mistakes in development of infrastructure can be seen as the main benefit of the services that SIXENSE provides.
