The majority in parliament rejected 65 votes in favor, 48 against and 55 abstentions the proposal of BSP for Bulgaria to reduce and freeze the remuneration of MPs and to reduce their leave.

The change in the Rules of the National Assembly supported only the deputies from the left and the other parliamentary groups voted against and abstained.

The governors have blamed populism and proposed to put a criterion on deputies' salaries - a percentage of participation in parliamentary work, and the opposition criticizes them for keeping their money and blessings.

The draft proposes that the remuneration of the MPs be fixed at a rate of BGN 2,976 as it was at the end of the previous parliament and not be recalculated until the end of the mandate; the holidays of the National Assembly will be only from 1 to 31 August and on Christmas and Easter holidays the deputies will rest as much as the official non-working days.
