Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama warned Balkan countries are threatened by Russian influence, Macedonian news agency McFax reports, quoted by Focus.

In an interview with the British newspaper The Financial Times, the Albanian prime minister stressed that the Balkans are an important region and that is why Moscow can not be expected to withdraw from it. It is for this reason that the European Union must start negotiations on Albania's accession to its structures, Rama said, adding: "Albania deserves these negotiations to begin."

Recently, in Albania, representatives of institutions and parties, as well as the non-governmental sector have criticized Russia, which according to them is strengthening its influence in the country.

Anti-Russian sentiment in the country is tangible, and Russian ambassador to Tirana Karpushin has repeatedly denied public concern about the Kremlin's influence, saying there is no reason for it.
