The European Commission is set to unveil the reports measuring Bulgaria and Romania's progress in reform on Wednesday.

The monitoring, done under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), analyzes each country's progress in fighting corruption and (specifically for Bulgaria) organized crime and gives and assessment of judicial reform.

Unlike previous reports, this one will cover the full length of the period that began when Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU in 2007.

Romania has become increasingly decoupled from Bulgaria over the last few years, showing success in judicial reform and anti-graft measures.

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has argued that CVM might be brought to an end before the end of his term in 2019 and has acknowledged Romania's progress as bigger than Bulgaria.

But other Commission officials have refused to set a timetable. They have also resisted a proposal from some Bulgarian officials, including MEPs, who suggest the CVM should be abolished as it is not efficient enough at the moment.
