Bulgarian considers proposing again a female candidate to take over as European Commissioner, media reports say.

Incumbent Kristalina Georgieva, sent to Brussels by Bulgaria and acting as EU Commission Vice President for Budget and Human Resources, is leaving in January.

News website Dnevnik.bg quotes Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov as indicating there is a big enough number of women assuming high positions in Brussels.

Reports of Mediapool.bg mention the names of Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva and Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova.

It also speculates on the possibility to nominate Iskra Mihaylova, a former Environment Minister currently serving as MEP who was elected to the European parliament on the ticket of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS).

There are several female MEPs from Bulgaria currently in office, including Mariya Gabriel (EPP/GERB), Filiz Hyusmenova (ALDE/DPS) and Iliana Iotova (S&D/BSP), the latter running for Vice President.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov earlier said his country would seek an environment or regional development portfolio.
