Six of the customs officers detained at the border cross checkpoint Lesovo will be detained for another 72 hours under prosecutor’s orders.

Another six have been granted bail, reported the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

On Wednesday, during an operation of the National State Security Agency (DANS) and the police, over 30 customs officers were arrested at the checkpoint. They were operating as an organised criminal group and are suspected of taking bribes.

The investigation started after signals submitted by drivers. 300 cases of bribery were proven via Special Investigative Means (SRS).

Some of the officers who were indicted and arrested during a similar operation two years ago were reinstated later and have now been arrested again.
