Lawmakers have agreed to establish a parliamentary committee that will look into Bulgaria's fuels market, on suspicions that some practices have been distorting competition since 2008.

Abuse of dominant position on behalf of key petrol and diesel retailers will also be a subject of investigation.

The development comes after Bulgaria's competition watchdog filed a claim against six retailers of maintaining a cartel agreement and fixing fuel prices.

Another ad-hoc committee will deal with the concession of Bobov Dol mines, with some lawmakers claiming that handing over the mine resulted in BGN 70 M in losses for the state.

Irregularities were reported with regard to the concession after an underground sit-in of workers at Babino, one of the pits at Bobov Dol. Their protest highlighted problems at the mine, with the operator, a company of entrepreneur Hristo Kovachki, failing to pay salaries and food vouchers as agreed under contracts with workers.
