Bulgaria's highest-ranking tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, dashed his hope of winning his first major title in two years after losing to the world's No 2 Andy Murray.

Dimitrov played the ninth final in his professional career and the third one for 2016, in an effort to grab his first title at a big tournament since October 2014.

In a tense match, Dimitrov lost the first set at 4:6 and the second one at 6:7(2).

In a game that lasted 1 h 57 minutes, Dimitrov once more showed he is in a better shape in the last months compared to a year of major slumpdowns.

As of Monday, he is expected to climb up two spots, to 18th from 20th in the ATP singles ranking.

For Murray, this is the 40th title he gets out of 61 finals.
