The Bulgarian Parliament declared October 19 day of Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship. The decision was adopted unanimously with 130 votes “for”.

On October 19, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates St Ioan Rilski whose holy relics were transported from Sredets to the then-Hungarian capital Esztergom in 1183 and then returned.

The declaration of a day of Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship allows for annual initiatives to be carried out that show the common moments of our history in the last millennium, as well as for discussing the positions of the two countries on contemporary issues.

It was expected that deputies would discuss the ban on wearing burkas on Thursday but, at the request of DPS, the point was not included in the agenda. The measure was to be debated due to the decision of several municipalities to ban the wearing of garments which cover the face.
