Nearly a hundred miners staged on Wednesday a blockade of the road linking Burgas and the resort town of Slanchev Bryag (Sunny Beach) by the Black Sea.

A trade union official representing workers at the mine earlier told the Bulgarian National Radio the average value of salaries and layoff compensations owed to each of them was to the tune of BGN 2000 (around EUR 1023).

The Cherno More mine, in the region of Burgas, was closed down in April, with its employees not having received payment for months at the time.

This has been the second protest of workers at the mine since April.

The mine is owned by controversial entrepreneur Hristo Kovachki.

Protesters, speaking to a reporter of private bTV station, called on Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to meet with Kovachki to discuss possible solutions.
