Russia Does Not Consider Revival of South Stream At Present

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Saturday that the revival of the cancelled South Stream natural gas pipeline is not on Moscow’s agenda at present.
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum, Novak stated that currently Russia is not discussing the option of reviving the project, RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
The project foresaw the construction of a pipeline that would supply natural gas from Russia to Austria, with its route planned to run under the Black Sea and through Bulgaria.
Since it did not comply with EU legislation, Russia officially cancelled the project at the end of 2014 and announced its replacement with plans for an alternative pipeline passing through Turkey, the so-called Turkish Stream.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been indications both from Bulgarian and Russian officials that the two sides might seek revival of South Stream.
