Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on Thursday said authorities are looking into the actions of Dimitar Angelov, the former CEO of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

Angelov was dismissed due to "expiry of his term in office" earlier this week.

However, the development followed allegations from Georgi Kadiev, an independent lawmaker who launched his own party in June and who presented evidence purportedly suggesting his involvement in corruption schemes.

Kadiev told the Bulgarian National Radio on Wednesday that a number of officials had been aware of Angelov's actions, including "at least several lawmakers of [the biggest party] GERB, at least one minister, at least one trade union leader, and many employees of Kozloduy NPP."

Allegedly, Angelov sealed contracts to hand over loans to people who had working relations with the plant.

Angelov denies the accusations and says he had already informed officials of not intending to renew his contract with Kozloduy NPP, citing personal reasons.
