The Polish government has the readiness to deploy additional police officers to the Bulgarian-Turkish border.

This became clear after a meeting between Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova and her Polish counterpart Mariusz Blaszczak on Friday.

The two ministers visited the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint and met with the Polish police officers who are part of the Frontex operation patrolling the border with Turkey.

At present, 21 Polish border police officers are helping their Bulgarian counterparts in guarding the border against the crossing of illegal migrants.

Bachvarova thanked for the help provided by Poland and for Warsaw's demonstration of European solidarity.

Further deployment of Polish officers will be made if the need arises and if Bulgaria deems necessary.

Blaszczak highlighted the firm support of Poland towards Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area.
