Macedonian President Fully Reverses Amnesty in Wiretapping Affair

Macedonia's President Gjorge Ivanov has scrapped an amnesty granted in April on politicians involved in a massive wiretapping affair.

At the end of May, Ivanov revoked the amnesty declared for 22 out of 56 people, calling on those not affected to submit declarations asking for their pardon to be reversed as well.

However, the President's website [MK] says none of them had done so as of Monday.

The amnesty triggered protests across the country and called into question the holding of early elections which were initially scheduled for June 05, but were then postponed.

After the partial reversal in May, the EU and the US had voiced their concerns over the developments, calling for all pardons to be revoked.
