The highest ranking Bulgarian male tennis player Grigor Dimitrov suffered a defeat in the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters on Tuesday.

Dimitrov lost to Gilles Simon from France with 4:6, 3:6 in a match which lasted slightly less than one hour and a half.

Last year, the Bulgarian reached the quarterfinals of the tournament where he was ousted by another Frenchman – Gael Monfils.

Thus, Dimitrov suffered his fifth defeat in sixth encounters with Simon, his only success being in Brisbane earlier in the season.

The Bulgarian made a total of 33 unforced efforts, while his French opponent made only fourteen.

The opening set was contested until its very end, with each of the players winning their service games.

With the score being 5:4 for Simon, Dimitrov conceded a break in the tenth game and lost the first set.

The Bulgarian started the second set better, recording his first break in the fifth game and coming in the lead with 3:2.

However Simon returned the break immediately in the next game and equalised the score.

The Frenchman went on to claim the final victory after recording another break in the ninth game.
