Bulgarians have spent more than BGN 130 M on trips in the days around the country's national holiday (Liberation Day) which was celebrated on Thursday.

According to figures of the Institute for tourism analyses and evaluation, more than BGN 80 M of them will be spent in Bulgaria, with the remaining BGN 50 M spent abroad.

A total of 330 000 people left their homes to spend the holiday somewhere else.

The majority of Bulgarians travelled within the country, going to resorts or visiting friends and relatives, while 50 000 went on holiday abroad.

Only 38 000 Bulgarians chose Greece as their holiday destination, which is a 40 % drop compared to last year.

This drop is due to the blockade staged by Greek farmers at checkpoints along the border with Bulgaria in the past month.

More Bulgarians have opted for a holiday in Serbia, with 10 000 people expected to visit the country during the long weekend.

A typical three-day holiday in Serbia costs around BGN 200, which is much cheaper than in Greece, private bTV station informs.

Analysts are also noting a drop in the number of Bulgarians visiting Turkey due to the recent terrorist attacks in Ankara and Istanbul.

Forecasts predict another drop in the number of Bulgarians visiting Greece during the Easter and May holidays.

On an annual basis, the number of Bulgarian tourists to Greece is expected to decrease by 100 000 people.
