US Secretary of State John Kerry said Washington and Paris are to step up effort to destroy the Islamic State (IS) group.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with French President Francois Hollande in Paris, he confirmed on Tuesday the two countries are to boost the exchange of intelligence information as a step they believe will help regain the momentum of the anti-IS bombing campaign and to "hit them at the core".

"We gained more territory, Daesh [an acronym for IS used by France] has less territory," he is heard saying at the media briefing aired by CNN.

In his words, Paris will soon "rebound" after the seven attacks that killed 129 people last week, with IS claiming responsibility.

Kerry also reiterated he was determined to attend the COP21 climate change summit alongside President Barack Obama, with Washington thus sending a strong message "no-one will disrupt the business of the global community".

The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference is to begin on November 30 and will go on until December 11, 2015.
