Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova said on Tuesday that the EU will allocate more than EUR 1.2 on cross-border cooperation to Bulgaria in the next programme period.

This is the budget foreseen under twelve programmes on cross-border, trans-national and inter-regional cooperation, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) quotes her as saying.

Pavlova reminded that no funds under these programmes have been lost during the current programme period.

The minister noted that the refugee crisis is affecting the member states and the internal situation within them.

She made it clear that despite these developments, the support for the least developed regions remained the priority of the government.

Pavlova assured that the government will continue to support the least developed and most backward regions through programmes on cross-border cooperation.

According to her, the programmes play a crucial role in enhancing the cooperation between municipalities and business and improve the infrastructure.
