Bulgaria Records Negative Balance of Trade with Third Countries in January-August

Between January and August 2015, Bulgaria recorded a negative balance of trade with third countries amounting to BGN 572.2 M.

In August alone, Bulgaria had a negative balance of trade with third countries amounting to BGN 142.4 M.

This became evident from the latest figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), which were released on Monday.

Between January and August, Bulgarian exports to third countries amounted to BGN 11 B, increasing by 5.3 % compared to the same period last year.

The main trading partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, Serbia, Russia, Singapore, the US and Macedonia, which accounted for 54.9 % of exports to third countries.

In August alone, Bulgarian exports to third countries amounted to BGN 1.3 B, decreasing by 12.8 % compared to the same month in 2014.

In the first eight months of this year, Bulgarian imports from third countries amounted to BGN 12.5 %, decreasing by 2.8 % compared to the same period last year.

The greatest volume of goods was imported from Russia, Turkey, China and Ukraine.

In August, Bulgarian imports from third countries amounted to BGN 1.4 B, decreasing by 21.4 % compared to the same month in 2014.

The greatest increase in Bulgarian exports to third countries was registered in fats, oils and waxes of animal and plant origin as well as various ready-made products, while the greatest decrease was recorded in the exports of mineral fuels, oils and similar products.

The greatest increase in Bulgarian imports from third countries was recorded in foods and live animals as well as unprocessed (raw) materials excluding fuels, while the greatest drop was registered in the imports of soft and alcoholic drinks and tobacco.

When the figures on trade with the EU are included, total Bulgarian exports between January and August amounted to BGN 30.3, increasing by 8 % compared to the same period last year.

In the first eight months of this year, total Bulgarian imports amounted to BGN 34, increasing by 3.1 % compared to the same period in 2014.

Thus the total balance of trade of Bulgaria between January and August was negative and exceeded BGN 3.7 B.
