A new innovative approach will be implemented at Sofia International Airport in order to fight illegal taxi services. Apparently the measures have been imposed so as to fight the negative effects that illegal taxi services have had on the legally registered companies.

For the purpose, the airport authorities will be painting the floor of the arrivals passage in three distinguishable colors, each leading to a different type of authorized transportation – from buses, through subway to taxis.

The statement was made by Transportation Minister Ivaylo Moskovski Friday. The new practice has been adopted from similar ones already executed abroad in order to fight illegal taxi services.

Reportedly, the paths will not only have different color coding but will also feature different images that will correspond to the type of transportation they will lead to. The pathway leading to authorized taxis will be yellow. Green will be used to guide passengers that will be willing to take the bus to town and the newly-opened subway station will have dark blue color coding.

The information on the newly adopted rules has been released merely a week after the Directorate Automobile Administration has revoked the right of a company to operate altogether. The reason has been the fact that it did not provide accurate information to customers and has been using devices that would quickly change the prices on the taxi measuring device to much higher. As a result 177 taxi cars will discontinue their services.
