There is an imminent danger for the garbage from the landfill near Pazardzhik to reach up to the inter-city road.

The information was released by the Mayor of the village Kapitan Dimitrievo, Ivan Zlatinov, the Bulgarian National Radio reported. In his words, the frequent fires in the landfill could be limited only if the access of the Roma population from the site is completely cut off.

Currently the garbage is located approximately 40 meters away from the road. The frequent fires, on the other hand, create difficulties for traffic along the Pazardzhik-Peshtera-Brazigovo road. Driving along the road is dangerous on account of the fumes and the decreased visibility.

Despite the fines and other sanctions on the part of the eco inspectorate, the problem remains unresolved. In the words of experts, the best solution would be for a fence to be constructed around the landfill so that Roma people would not be able to access it freely.

The landfill has had its complete capacity filled 20 years ago, so the garbage is already overflowing and reaching dangerously close to the road.

It is not yet clear how much money would be required for the safety fence. Nonetheless, the Pazardzhik municipality has stated that there is no money available in the budget for the project.

''The only solution would be if the construction of the new addition to the landfill is completed,'' stated Ivan Zlatinov.

In his words, the re-cultivation of the landfill is crucial and this will be the only way to void fires and possible road accidents in the area.
