Tennis great Roger Federer described his match against the best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov as a "high-level" game despite not being an official one.

After being defeated by Dimitrov in a exhibition match in the Madison Square Garden in New York, Federer explained he had found some parts of the match "difficult".

"I think he played very well. He did really well to turn the match around, honestly... So credit to him. It's a lot of pressure — first time at the Garden," ABC News quotes him as saying.

Dimitrov for his part explained he has "so much respect for him".

While one of the world's greatest-ever tennis player recalled sports events at the Madison Square Garden held in the early 1990s, Dimitrov interjected jokingly, adding, "I was born around the 90s."

Wednesday's victory, though not in an official match was the first ever for Grigor Dimitrov against Roger Federer. Previously, Dimitrov hadn't even managed to win a single set against the Swiss tennis legend.
