Members of the parliamentary Energy Committee will hold a hearing of the three electricity distribution companies (EDCs) operating in Bulgaria.

The three EDCs – CEZ, EVN and Energo-Pro, will have to explain the reasons behind the high electricity bills issued for the past month, private NOVA TV reports.

After it emerged that as many as 67 000 customers of Energo-Pro received two invoices for the same period, Bulgaria's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova ordered EDCs to be carefully inspected.

The Chairperson of the parliamentary Energy Committee Delyan Dobrev announced on Monday that fines of up to BGN 200 000 are foreseen for EDCs that fail to observe the 31-day metering period.
