Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is on a visit to Brussels to hold talks with the heads of the European Commission, European Council and European Parliament.

Though Bulgaria's access to EU funding had previously been described as a top issue on Borisov's agenda, Russia's decision to abandon the South Stream pipeline project led the Prime Minister to announce he would shift the focus of talks, searching a viable solution for Sofia, which was party to the project.

Juncker for his part said on Wednesday he would be able to communicate Brussels' position only after holding talks with commissioners overseeing the respective portfolios and the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

Apart from Juncker, EU Parliament President Martin Schulz and European Council President Donald Tusk, Borisov is due to meet Joseph Daul, the head of European People's Party (EPP) of which his party is a member.

The forthcoming report under the Mechanism for Verification and Cooperation (CVM), due in January, and Bulgaria's Schengen accession will also be subject to discussions.
