Number of Hotels in Bulgaria Increased in May – NSI

In May 2014, a total of 2,185 accommodation establishments have operated in Bulgaria, according to the national statistics.

The total number of the rooms in them was 99.6 thousands and the bed-places were 208.5 thousands. In comparison with May 2013 the total number of accommodation establishments increased by 2.4% and the bed-places in them – by 4.6%. The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in May 2014 was 1212.0 thousands or by 2.4% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year, as the greatest increase (by 14.2%)was observed in 1 and 2 stars accommodation establishments.

In May 2014, 70.5% of all nights spent by foreign citizens were in 4 and 5 stars hotels and 34.3% of all nights spent by Bulgarians. In 3 stars accommodation establishments were spent 30.9% of all nights by Bulgarian residents and 23.2% - of all nights by foreigners, while in the rest of accommodation establishments (with 1 and 2 stars) they were 34.7 and 6.3% respectively.

In May 2014, the arrivals in all accommodation establishments increased by 3.8% compared to the same month of 2013 and reached 459.6thousands. Bulgarian guests were 56.0% of all arrivals as the majority part (64.8%) of them spent the nights in hotels 1 and 2 or 3 stars and spent 2.1 nights on the average.The arrivals of foreigners were 202.3 thousands as 71.5% of them spent nights in hotels with 4 and 5 stars. On the average 3.3 nights were spent by foreigners.

In May 2014, the total occupancy of the bed-places in accommodation establishments was 21.9%, as compared to May 2013 it remained approximately at the same level.

The highest was occupancy of the bed-places in 4 and 5 stars accommodation establishments - 27.0%, followed by 3 stars accommodation establishments-19.7%, and with 1 and 2 stars – 15.7%. The total revenues from nights spent in May2014 reached BGN 51.8M or by 9.6% more com

pared to May2013. An increase was registered both in the revenues from Bulgarians – by 15.8%, and from foreigners – by 6.2%.
