Defense Minister Angel Naydenov has said that the socialists will not set a date for the snap elections during Tuesday's sitting of the Consultative Council on National Security.

Naydenov, Spokesperson for the Bulgarian Socialist Party, announced the plans of the ruling party after a Monday sitting of the Executive Bureau of BSP.

He claimed that Tuesday's sitting of the Consultative Council on National Security was to be seen as the beginning of talks on snap elections.

Naydenov made clear that he expected the Consultative Council on National Security to approve a schedule for political consultation on setting a date for the early elections, adding that the socialist-led government would resign only after that.

Naydenov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, noted that the government and the Parliament would keep functioning under this scenario.

Stressing that BSP supported the organization of early elections, he added that the date had to be set with a view to the tasks which the Cabinet had to fulfill.

Naydenov, as cited by news.bg, suggested that he did not expect the government to resign by the end of the week.
