Only 8% of clothes, made by local companies are being sold in Bulgaria, said the chairperson of the Association of textile and garments producers Radina Bankova.

According to her, Bulgarians prefer to buy clothes from the large retail chains, but still cannot find the higher quality clothes, because the marketing departments of the chains consider Bulgaria a country of low purchasing power and only offer the cheaper ranges.

The sector exports the majority of its production and in the past year posted 7% growth.

“Though most of people think the Bulgarian clothes are of good quality, they are hard to find in the stores,” she said in an interview for the Darik national radio. “Only 8% is being sold here and we do not expect an increase in the share.”

According to Bankova, clothes made in Bulgaria are easier to find in the second hand shops, which are posting an increase in sales.
