Lawmakers are considering the appointment of Former Deputy Minister of Finance Kiril Ananiev as the new President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office.

Ananiev was Deputy Finance Minister in three consecutive offices, that of former rightist PM Ivan Kostov, former Tsar and PM Simeon Saxe-Coburg and socialist leader Sergei Stanishev.

Bulgarian MPs adopted on second reading the National Audit Office bill on Wednesday. Under it, board members will now be dismissed in case of Ethical Code violations or infringement, despite their seven-year term, Standart Daily reports.

In such cases, the Audit Office will be allowed to vote with 2/3 of its members in favor of the dismissal of the offender and to make a motivated proposal to the National Assembly which can then approve it.

Candidates for auditors will be evaluated using tests prepared by the National Audit Office members. According to the bill, National Audit Office employees must have master's degree, at least three years of experience and will be appointed after passing a written exam and an interview.
