Sofia Municipality Pledges no Increases in Local Taxes, Fees in 2014

The Sofia Municipality does not envisage increases in local taxes and fees in 2014, according to Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

The plans were presented by Fandakova at a seminar of the Sofia Municipal Council on the budget of the municipality for 2014, according to the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

She said that the budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2014, drafted by the deputy mayor in charge of finance, Doncho Barbalov, was a budget of investments in renovation and change.

Fandakova specified that the budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2014 amounted to BGN 1.4 B, up by BGN 230 M from the previous year, due to the increase by BGN 244 M in the capital program, which stood at BGN 697, 203 M in 2014, the biggest amount for the past few years.

She pointed out that 67% of the funds would be provided as grants under EU operational programs, adding that the Sofia Municipality had attracted financing of nearly BGN 3 M for the development of the city.

Fandakova said that the main spheres to which the funding was to be allocated in 2014 were the replacement of public transport vehicles, infrastructure, ecology, education, and culture and cultural and historical heritage.
